social segregation

In Groves, I've noticed that African Americans have a group, White people have a group, chaldean people have a group. I think that is happening because they just feel better around people that they can relate to. For example; I am chaldean and when I hangout with people with different cultures, I just feel uncomfortable because I know that they have different values/thought. When I hangout with people that are like me, I don't feel like I have to impress them, I can just be myself and no one would judge me based on my thoughts. In my culture, parents are very protective and they do not allow their daughters to date/hookup with random guys, when I tell that to my American friends; they always judge. I honestly think that's the right way to raise your children, girls need to respect themselves and save themselves for the right person. All my chaldean friends would agree but Amricans would just think that I am old fashioned and weird. That's exactly why I don't like hanging out with people that don't share my culture and religious views.

  1. I see exactly where you are coming from. You and I have become so close lately and it is because we understand each other. I am no chaldean but we are both Arabic and speak the same language and our parents have the same mind set. When I am around my American friends, I am pressured into doing what is considered "cool" even though that is completely frowned upon in my religion and culture. My Arab friends understand how it is to combine the two societies, American and Arabic. I feel at ease around those people, as well.

  2. I agree because that's why I rather be around my black friends, not because of discrimination but because of my comfort zone.
